- Bright colors with black accents are becoming more and more popular. The high contrast is a take on the classic black and white kitchen. It gives homeowners a chance to more of their personality and tastes into the kitchen design.
- Copper and distressed brass are big this year. Shying a way from the bright polish of chrome and nickel, copper and brass have a warmer more natural feeling.
- Renewable and recycled products have replaced expensive woods and marbles. Easily renewable materials, such as bamboo, have become popular for tables, counter tops, even floors.

- Turquoise has become on of the most popular colors for living rooms. The past few years used a lot of greens and blues, ending up at turquoise is almost natural. Deep and rich turquoise, not wimpy and pale, has shown up in upholstery, wall coverings, furniture and walls.
- The overexposure to consumer goods has left people searching for vintage and one-of-a-kind. Ordering from Ikea just isn't cutting it for most people anymore. Now most people are finding great pieces at consignment shops, flea markets and antique stores. Pieces that are needing repair are also popular because people can customize the piece themselves.
- Reinventing the electrical outlet was something that was bound to happen. The new U-socket wall plug has two USB outlets so homeowners aren't always looking for a place to charge their phone. The outlets also feature a smart sensor that stops charging when the device has reached a full charge.
